Years of eating spicy foods and overwhelmingly flavorful dishes have desensitized my tongue to the point that I cannot claim to be a coffee connoisseur. I simply cannot taste the subtle nuances of different, but similar coffees. However, I do love my coffee and I do explore a little more than the average coffee lover.
These days most of my coffee is brewed on a Keurig Vue V700 machine, with a Solofill refillable Vue cup for my self-ground coffee. I grind my whole-bean coffees with a Breville Smart Grinder™. This setup has been working out very well for the past two years or so since my previous Keurig K-cup machine stopped working.
Now if I want to get fancy, I also have a few other brewing methods up my sleeve. Pictured above are my Aeropress, Bodum stovetop espresso maker, and an ibrik.
The Aeropress is a very quick an easy to make coffee. Simply add a filter and ground coffee, some hot water, and press the plunger down to push the brewed coffee into your cup. The quality of the coffee brewed this way is very good, and cleaning is very easy.
The stovetop cappuccino maker lets me brew espresso without an espresso machine. I add water to the bottom, place the ground coffee in between, and heat it all up on the stovetop. When the water boils, it bubbles up through the ground coffee in the center and up to the top. Once all the water has bubbled up to the top, I can pour the espresso into a cup.
Finally, the ibrik is used for making Turkish coffee. I place ground coffee, sugar, and water into the ibrik, then boil it on the stovetop. The coffee brewed this way is strong and sweet.
These are all great brewing methods. If you have plenty of counter space, I recommend getting a Keurig machine with a refillable cup. If counter space is in short supply at your home, you can’t go wrong with the Aeropress. Both of these methods, quick, convenient, and produce better results than a traditional drip machine.
